A few glimpses at my summer…

Here is a look on a here-and-there basis of some adventures, experiences and quick shots of my summer, thus far. I have spent some time trying to rest and reload, a bit. I have been flying under the radar and attempting to live in a rhythm of being with Jesus and being with family…and anything else comes after those. It’s out of the feelings of realizing, after ten years of full-time ministry in our community I felt as though I longed for some rest – a breath of air, a sabbatical-like opportunity. Here are some sites:

After many promises of playing in the rain – we finally got our boots on and ran out one morning to play in the rain and splash in the puddles.

2011-06-27 16.32.39

A tired little Boone loving on Mommy.

We went fishing one day at a friend’s pond. Wyatt caught six fish, Boone caught three or four! We had a blast, they were cashed and sweat bee sting-ridden. We looked back, remembering the fish, the horses, and the bond we have – a deep rooted father-son friendship that is forever. Love these dudes…love our good times.

A smelly bathroom is no fun. Replaced the wax seal…..wah lah! No more smell. Felt like I was a handy-man. Maybe I am.

Kyds Workshop at The Home Depot. They helped me to be a better dad on this day – I loved working with the boys at the HD. We made a coaster set, got their own aprons, pins, and walked around the store like they owned the place! Loved it.

I took Wyatt exploring on a day hike. We found this baby bird. We got to pet it, too. Then we came across the praying mantis…. or as Wyatt says, the “Praying Man” bug.

Working on another project with Daddy! Boone pulls another plant out of the ground….he has a habit of doing this. He then screams loudly, “Look, Daddy….a raddish!!!” We now do time-outs for pulling plants! He’s a hoot.

Here’s my family!! Wyatt, Boone, Olivia, and Baby O!!! See her, she’s in the “O”! j/k. Well, she is in there…..

We have enjoyed our summer. I have enjoyed my time with Jesus. I have sat on my back porch and soaked in the goodness of the Lord. I have sat in our rocking chairs with Olivia and had glasses of tea and moments of laughter, flirting, and looking forward, glancing back in our lives. It has been sweet and tender all together. We look ahead to the wonder and chaos of another baby, another busy season with ministry, kids, and the details in the middle. I feel so grateful, so honored, so blessed and yet have felt so blurry on some days. I am thankful for clarity from the Lord – to seek His Kingdom and HIs righteousness….and then these things will be given (food, drink, clothing)! –Mathew 6:33

Today’s scripture: Mathew 6:9-34…..

6"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9“This, then, is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.[C]’ 14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Fasting 16“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Treasures in Heaven 19“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. Do Not Worry 25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[D]? 28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

My word, my oath and His word...today

Matthew 5:33-48 ESV

"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.' But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

In my time Jesus, today.

Lord, help me to keep my word. Period. Help me to speak truth. Let me lead my family in the same way. Help me to resolve issues in a Godly manner. Not to retaliate. To flee from evil. To not resist but turn the other cheek while trusting you throughout. To consider it joy since the hard times point me to you, Jesus.

I want to go the extra mile...not for the sake of it...but for you...to greatly encounter God and learn more of your ways. To give when others don't notice. To offer you that which is yours...Glory. In all I do. For your sake. Glory. Godliness. Holiness. Not my sake.

I am yours.

Blessings,

Amen

Today in Mathew....Jesus said this

Matthew 5:13-20 ESV

"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

Help me, Lord to learn about...

Being the salt of the Earth

Letting my light shine

Being the Light of God

Righteousness from you

Your ways

My deeds

The fulfillment of the Law and Holy Scriptures

Keeping your words

Belonging to you

Walking with you all my days.

The Lord provides

This little guy is on our front porch. In my time with Jesus this a.m., I watched the mama and papa birds chirp and watch me and my every move. The mama came within 3 ft. of me. Seems like she is okay with my having quiet times on the porch under the ferns where she decided to lay her egg. To sit and watch her and to water the ferns....and to sit in scripture in my rocking chair - a thing of beauty. It was as if the Lord was reminding me of His love, His provisions, and a re-telling of Jesus speaking of God's love by speaking of the birds. He told of how they do not worry..they do not worry from where their food comes from. They do not tarry over what will spring forth tomorrow. They operate from the now - they (trust) know...that their needs are given, provided for. No worry is in them.

We have lots of birds around our house...we haven't had this in our other homes. It is really a continuous reminder of God's creation! They are always chirping in the a.m. and gently flying from one tree to the other. It is a symphony chorus of the Lord and His greatness.

Today I read about Jesus calling the first disciples. They dropped all they had and gave their lives to Jesus. He taught them of God's love, of God's faithfulness, and how the Lord is their Provider.....and so many more things that come along with walking upright with Jesus.

Seems like the birds have an understanding...a deep trust.

A deep trust I would do well to gain myself.

Thank you, Lord.

Blessings,

A Good morning

Today, Lord, it feels great outside.

Help me to hear your Word. Allow me to be a doer of your Word. To read your scriptures and listen to your Holy Spirit..and discern with you, Lord, your guidance upon my life.

Let me not give in to temptation. Let me put into practice the good deeds you have placed in my heart. Fend off that which is not from you. Bring on the godliness. Bring on fruit. Bring on a journey of faithfulness and love -rooted in your love.

If trouble arises, may I live in the accepting of what you give me. Living in the present...right now and not missing what you have, currently, for me.

This is my day, you have designed it, you have given it to me. Let me rejoice....and be glad.

I belong.

Grateful.

Blessings.

Holiness in my home

(Zechariah 13-14)

Holiness.

The Lord. Holy.

Says.."...be Holy for I am Holy."

Says Jerusalem is the Holy city. The city of God.

There will be plagues..there will be battles...destruction and violence. There will be worship and sacrifices. And there will be Sacrifice. One that is paid, given for all to be cleansed...a fountain to pour on us all - removal of sins.

Glory will fill the city...from within. Light will flood. Waters will flow. Battles will be done. Time will never end. He will reign.

The Word speaks of sacrifices..of faithfulness and following God's statutes. He speaks of pots being Holy...being righteous and that any meat sacrificed can be cooked in those pots and considered Holy...for they are cleansed and in alignment with the Lord, the Provider and Giver.

Pots being Holy. Jesus sacrificing Himself. Providing all that is needed. The Holy city. God resident in me. The new city....eternity in Heaven. My heart in Christ.

Do I think of my pots being Holy? Have I considered the sacrifice of Christ to, literally, cover all things...that in my faith in Jesus, all these things are considered Holy in the eyes of God?? Because of Jesus...my faith in Him.

Holiness. In my heart. In my house. In my life. My faith and trust in Jesus. Help me, Lord, to consider....

Blessings,

A day in connection with God

Zechariah 10:8-9 ESV

"I will whistle for them and gather them in,

for I have redeemed them,

and they shall be as many as they were before.

Though I scattered them among the nations,

yet in far countries they shall remember me,

and with their children they shall live and return."

Hmmmm, to be whistled in by God...feels odd yet it feels like maybe what my soul truly longs for. To be gathered in and remember the Lord...to be brought back and bought-redeemed is a victory cry in the name of Jesus.

To stand, sit, and walk...listening for the command and voice of the Lord - am I willing to do this? What does this look like...daily listening.

"my life is a listening, His is a speaking." -Thomas A' Kempis

I think of learning to hear the sound of my dad's whistle. It was faint, almost silent...a high pitched quiet yet forceful "whistle" that my brother and I could hear even in the midst of mountain streams rushing or football games being played...or whatever the distraction..it seemed we could hear the voice of our father. Piercing..calling..true north, it felt.

Interesting that God's word refers to whistling and gathering us, who have been scattered...bringing us in to our Holy and Right places...nearer to Himself.

Nearer to God. Feels amazing. Feels unknown and frightful. Feels like the only true place I was meant and perhaps ought to be...although His love for me: as I am...not as I ought to be!

Thank you Jesus for your love. Remind me. All day.

Blessings.

Resurrection, the beach, and a biscuit

Today we got up and set out to the beach.

Today we got up and read scripture.

Today we sat on the beach and prayed.

We proclaimed He is risen! He is risen indeed!!

We held a clinging cross. Noticing how naked it is...how the paid-cross now reveals truth into the empty tomb!

The tomb is empty. I have life because, like the beloved John..seeing the linens in the grave...the risen King...he believed. So do I.

My family-time on the beach..reading aloud that Jesus conquered death!

Is anything better..not really!!

Thank you Jesus.

Risen. Alive.

Blessings,
